I’m not one for posting spoilers and this isn’t nearly enough to ruin The Wolverine in any sort of fashion (don’t continue reading if you want to stay spoiler free). While speaking to Parade, Hugh Jackman revealed this tidbit about what’s in store for Logan:
Speaking of The Wolverine, you look ripped in those first pictures we’ve seen. I gather that’s not painted on?
I wish! I keep thinking, “Come on, you spend millions on CGI, can’t you throw a quarter million my way for visual effects so I can eat pizza and drink beer and still look great?” No, I had to do it the hard way. Let me tell you, at 44 it’s not getting easier.
Give us a little scoop on the film.
You want to get me into trouble, don’t you? [laughs] Okay, the movie takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand. My character is at his lowest. He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him. And there is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it.
So . . . who is showing up from his past? Well, if you have been paying attention to reports over the last few months (or read our story from October), you know that Famke Janssen (Dr. Jean Grey) was spotted in Sydney while The Wolverine was filming. Coincidence? Highly unlikely . . . After the sighting, Janssen responded with the following when asked about the rumors by MTV News:
“One never knows,” Famke said coyly. “Jean Grey, the Phoenix … she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows.”
Famke’s appearance isn’t a huge spoiler, but it’s interesting that Jackman suggests a character from his past has “worked out a way to really hurt him.” Could the Phoenix be behind some sort of master plan? I hope that’s not the case . . . The Wolverine hits theaters July 26th, 2013.
