Casey Affleck’s Josh Hamilton Biopic Moves Forward

If I had to pick one active sports figure to be the subject of a biopic, it might just be Texas Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton. According to Deadline, Relativity Media has picked up the rights with Affleck’s and Hamilton, and the book Beyond Belief: Finding The Strength To Come Back. Affleck’s script likely centers on Hamilton’s rise as a Major League Baseball star after overcoming an addiction to alcohol and crack. For those unfamiliar with Hamilton’s odyssey, he was the first overall section of the 1999 MLB draft. He was having a successful minor league stint before getting involved with drugs and alcohol just prior to the 2001 season. He wouldn’t end up making his MLB debut until 2007.

I’m assuming the picture would focus a great deal on Hamilton’s struggles between 2001 and 2007 as he fought to make it back into baseball. It could be a few years before we see this one the big-screen, but it could make a great film.
