It’s no secret that everyone who was part of the Hellboy movies wants to finish the trilogy . . . except the studio. The first film didn’t do earth shattering numbers, but was well-received and sold over a half million units in its first week in release on DVD. The second film was bigger, better and reportedly had a production budget around $85 million dollars. The Golden Army opened strong with $34 million dollars, but didn’t have legs. A final tally of $75 million dollars domestically and $160 million worldwide is apparently just not enough to convince studios to spend even more on a third outing for HB. While promoting In Their Skin, Selma Blair (Liz) revealed to Bloody-Disgusting that the apocalypse is in the cards, but they need to find financing. Perhaps director Guillermo del Toro will have some leverage if next year’s Pacific Rim is a monster hit for Legendary Pictures.
“It’s my dream to work with Guillermo del Toro again. I just want to be near him. I love him. I miss him. It’s my dream that one day when I’m done with the TV Show [Anger Management] they say, ‘ok the movie’s actually going to go!’ That would be the biggest heaven.
I mean it’s all set up. ‘Hellboy 3′ is the biggest payoff and the biggest horror. I want to see what these twins are up to, if one’s the devil and one’s an angel. I want to see what Hellboy and Liz are up to! I know the film is the apocalypse and the apocalypse isn’t cheap to shoot so we have to find some funding and get going with it!”
