Warner Bros. Wants Ben Affleck To Direct The JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie (UPDATED)

UPDATE: According to Deadline‘s Mike Fleming, the story is bullshit. Fleming indicates he has checked with Affleck’s team and it’s not going to happen. Apparently, Warner Bros. offers everything they have to Christopher Nolan first, then David Yates (Harry Potter) and finally, Ben Affleck. His sources suggest he may take a meeting, but that is it. I guess it’s time to look elsewhere . . .

It comes as no surprise to hear DC and Warner Bros. want to get a Justice League movie in the works as soon as possible. The Avengers is now the third highest grossing film of all-time, and the recent announcement of Joss Whedon’s return signals continued dominance for the studio leading up to the sequel in 2015. According to Variety, Ben Affleck is now at the top of Warner Bros. list to direct a Justice League film after Christopher Nolan confirmed he was officially out. The superhero team up will feature Batman and Superman, alongside Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash. Warner Bros. long term plan for the team has not been laid out (more solo films leading up to League?), but I suppose there is a real possibility that Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds would reprise there roles as the Man of Steel and Green Lantern. I know the consensus is that Christian Bale is done with Batman, but isn’t there a chance he would come back for some sort of crazy back-end deal? I’m not ruling it out; especially when actors are having an increasingly difficult time commanding big bucks in Hollywood these days. The report indicates Affleck is the only director who has been sent the script for Justice League (written by Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall). The report also suggests Affleck may want a role in the film if he agrees to direct. Flash? The new Batman? Anyone buying this?
