According to Moviehole, production is set to get underway on a sixth Child’s Play film this September. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch Curse of Chucky on the big-screen. That’s right . . . the next installment of the series is headed straight to DVD. Dan Mancini will write, produce and direct the film. Mancini has written all five films in the series and directed 2004′s Seed of Chucky (the
last film in the franchise). Brad Dourif will return as the voice of Chucky. Here is what you can expect from the film:
“Chucky arrives to wreck havoc within a family that’s regrouped for a funeral. In the wake of her mother’s passing, a young woman – in a wheelchair since birth – is forced to put up with her sister, brother-in-law, niece and their nanny as they say their goodbyes to mother. When people start turning up dead, the fearless Nica discovers the culprit might be a “strange doll” she was sent a couple of days earlier.”
It’s nice to see MGM ditch plans to do yet another reboot. Child’s Play, Bride of Chucky and Child’s Play 2 each grossed around $30 million dollars while Seed of Chucky and Child’s Play 3 ended up tanking in the $15 million dollar range. According to the report, Curse of Chucky will take the series back to its darker tone. The idea is to make the franchise scary again and ditch the camp feel left by Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.
