CHRONICLE Director Taking On THE RED STAR
Well . . . so much for the Fantastic Four reboot or the Venom solo film. Chronicle director Josh Trank was previously rumored to be in negotiations to bring Spider-Man’s nemesis to the big screen (you can read our report here). According to Deadline, Trank’s next gig will be directing a film based on the graphic novel The Red Star. Jason Rothenberg’s (who recently wrote the new Twilight Zone film) script is set an alternate universe where the Soviet Union survived and elements of magic and futuristic technology come into play: “The protagonist is a Red Fleet soldier who goes up against an ex-leader who rules with an iron fist.” According to the report, Trank chose The Red Star as his next film because it was the only project of the three that has a writer currently working on the script. Trank’s Chronicle has grossed $116 million dollars worldwide so far on a $12 million dollar budget . . .
